The Futuresonic festival launches on May 13th, taking over the finest venues in Manchester including the RNCM, The Deaf Institute and Urbis for a celebration of musicianship and a salute to those who perform on the cutting-edge. The 2009 music programme features the most all-encompassing lineup to date, covering genres as diverse as techno, doom metal, contemporary classical, dubstep, lo-fi indie, electronica, leftfield hip-hop, deep house and italo.

Highlights for this year include a very special performance by one of the world's most influential musicians, Philip Glass, in the intimate settings of the RNCM, a world premiere of a major new AV commission by Mexican electronica pioneer Murcof and AntiVJ, a highly anticipated UK peformance from Austrian songwriter of the moment Soap&Skin and an incredibly rare Manchester live show from elusive stoner rock outfit Electric Wizard. Plus killer performances from LA's outsider pop phenomenon Ariel Pink, italo legend Daniele Baldelli, UK dubstep pioneer Kode 9 and the legendary NYC based hip-hop crew Anti-Pop Consortium amongst many others.
