The power of ebay

So, i buy the odd thing from ebay mostly music gear maybe the odd vinyl but i would really like to start selling stuff, and make a profit. I don't want to put too much money in to buying things but I would obviously like to make a little profit when selling them. What things do you think are good for this?

I really don't know what I should sell. I know that music gear is a bad way to go because I would probably want to keep it!But at least I know the market and the gear so perhaps if I could learn to not keep stuff it might be the right thing.

I know that some people can actually make a living so would a part time wage be realistic if the effort is put in?Is there anyone who makes a nice little profit on a regular basis?

Most people who "profit" or "make a living" off Ebay spend all their waking hours on the site, and are selling in quantity products that they can get at a retail discount and mark up to just under what retail would offer it for. Shipping is where most Ebayers make their money, I reckon.

this is the majority of ebay sellers, however myself and a friend of mine who i partnered with in an ebay business we still resurrect occasionally we would find deals ($200-500 off going 2nd hand rate) for large ticket musical equipment pieces on craigslist and then resell it on ebay with a marked up price but still average for ebay.

For very little work we could make up to $500 on selling a single item and spend a very low amount of time on the ebay site.

it's hard to choose one because i was doing this for a living for quite a while.

the one where i turned an absurd profit was probably finding 5 Technics SP-15 turntables at a garage sale for $5 each.

I bought them knowing that technics was a good brand and if they worked they were worth at least $100 a piece

but i was pleasantly surprised when i did a quick search on the internet and found the only one for sale at the time used was going for $1200!!! Apparently the Sp-15 is a specialized rare Technics mainly used in broadcast/radio stations and were designed to fit in these specially made desk coffins to hold more than 2 at a time.

At age 16 this was like getting a fucking blank check, i quickly sold off all 5 and had in the course of 3 weeks $6000 of money made from doing a total of 7 hours of work.

It's much harder these days though to find gems like this at garage sales, with people hip to ebay and the sellers themselves knowing how to use google.

i didnt even have the tone arms! i just sold the table itself.

Yeah, eBay has really killed garage and estate sales. They used to be awesome when I was a kid.

I realized later that the reason we went so much was that we were poor.
