Lightscribe is about as gay as those CDs that look like vinyl records.

Yea, the discs are expensive too and all are a drab blue color and plastered with the lightscribe logo. If your thinking about this as a way to author discs skip it, the cost of the discs coupled with the logo whoring and crappy finish make it a waste of time. Better off buying blank cd-r's with print on it from a manufacturer like Oasis.

This is the sort of information I was looking for...thanks.

Could you give me a link?

I guess I'm looking for a good way of authoring DVDs for two films I made. Anybody know of any other online solutions?

I use lightscribe a bit.

The discs I use don't have logos on them - they are just blank discs in one of 5 colours. You can get lightscribe compatible discs from a variety of vendors. They're not that expensive - here's a 50 pack in 5 different colours for about £20 including p+p: ebay link

you need a lightscribe compatible drive (some HP laptops have them, or you can get external lightscribe USB drives on ebay) and then you can download the software from the web site.

it takes a long time to burn the designs onto the discs (about 20 mins for a complex one) and the contrast isn't as great as it could be (if you start with a plain green disc then the finished disc will be monochrome varying from light green to dark green)

But it can look quite impressive if you come up with a good design and are prepared to trial and error a bit
