Deep Thoughts

I didn't know Jack Handey was a real guy...apparently started as a writer for SnL back in the 70's and wrote comedy with Steve Martin off and on.

i heard that when he first did deep thought some of them were live action sketches, but i've never seen those just the scrolling text ones and the later mid 90s snl versions

They read some of these at my highschool.

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

It takes a big man to cry. It takes an even bigger man to laugh at that man.

I think they work better without the scrolling text. You can often finish reading them before the voice over gets to the punchline, which spoils the lol.
