Why do dub techno CDs all last 79 minutes 55 seconds?

Most of the dub techno albums that are stored in my hard drive (Basic Channel/Burial Mix/Mainstreet Records, Modern Love, Echospace [detroit]) have a 79:55 duration. Do dub techno producers challenge each other for the one who can almost fill a whole CD? I think the dubsters on WATMM could answer this. Discuss.

i would assume many of the ones you're talking about are compiled from 12"s, whose combined length is greater than cd length, so all the tracks that get edited down for the disc version are done so to a minimum yielding maximum run time.

Yeah, I figured that for some cases, but don't they try a little too hard to reach 80 minutes by a few seconds?

dub techno seems like a cumbersome genre label to me, couldn't we shorten it to dubtech or dubno or technubbz or something a little clearer?
