their latest album was such a disappointment to me. garbage if you compare to their previous LPs. Is this one any good?

I listened to the first single of the album, and it's a slow ballad kind of track. BORING. I want stuff like Tetragrammaton and Inertiatic Esp!

omar has released like 11 solo albums in the last couple years, and I gave like 2 or 3 a try, it's just not good.

He's seriously just leaving a recorder on for 8 hours a day with constant jamming then shoveling it all out on CD.

(not really, the 11 albums had been made over years and stock piled, but it almost sounds like it)

Omar needs to slow the fuck down.

Hehe, this quote came to mind as I browsed the Mars Volta section yesterday and noted the vast array of Omar related projects within it, all of which were unfamiliar to me.

I enjoyed Bedlam quite a bit, largely due to the drums, drowned out as they are much of the time. If nothing more, the album title's apt in that it sound like total bedlam. Every instrument is as busy as possible practically all the time. Definitely not something I can always appreciate, but when I'm in the right head-space it's a fun listen. Deloused in Consortium is still my favorite thing they've done by a mile.

really looking forward to this album. I dont know why you guys arent into Bedlam if you liked their older stuff. its all there. I actually think its one of their better more cohesive albums. Oroborus may be my favourite TMV track so far and its on that album.

oh yeah hi and kiss my arse essines. are you still gay?

man, i totally agree. jon was such an excellent drummer. this line of new guys (i haven't been paying attention really, did they ever settle on a new drummer?) have disappointed me.

bedlam isn't at all like their older stuff (if you mean deloused). it's a lot more "compact" (idk how to describe it properly). i liked the ambient interludes and guitar noodling in deloused and frances, even amputechture, which sorta went in a different direction. bedlam just doesn't have that. it's like they're regressing to being at-the-drive-in again. which is funny in a way, but sad as well, because i absolutely LOVE their first two albums.

and it sounds like this new album isn't good either. oh well.

when i saw them live in 2007 or so in melbourne, they recently got a new drummer and he was pretty goddamn >awesome<. not sure who he was or if they kept him for studio stuff but he definitely stood out compaired to some of the studio stuffs.

yeah jon theodore is an awesome drummer, but so was the one they got for the album after he left. but that doesn't change the fact that i think the band dynamic after jon left changed significantly.

what ever.
