in the beginning there was a loop...

Guest naos

I created few loops in reason, but I don't feel that I could manipulate

them to make a song using the same software.

Basically, I like reason synths and effects, but I would like to try to arrange

loops using different software..

What would be the best thing to do, now that I have those loops, but

don't want to arrange using reason?

save them as wavs and use them in ACID / Ableton / etc?

ACID vs ableton?

why would acid be better?.. I've already tried ableton..

I didn't mean to say ACID is better. I was merely suggesting some loop oriented programs.

You can control reason as a rewire device in ableton, always seemed a bit backwards to me though. I'd just go with exporting wavs or making do with reasons editing.

me too. never understood real advantiges of rewire though. I'll try digital performer with reason.

For me audition is the perfect editing program especially in mulitrack. I know thousands would disagree.

I'll have to try it then. So best combo would be daw + audition or messing with wavs in acid..

It might not be the best for you depending on how your workflow is but give it a try. I think it's all about mixing and matching and finding the right things that work for you.

In my opinion, Acid gives you much more control of cutting up the samples themselves. It's a bit more hands on.

Second. Ableton allows you to jam but has made me lazy when it comes to slicing, dicing and cutting my samples.

how did you do most of your slicing in albeton? I'm finding theres a lot of different ways to go about it... session view, sampler, simpler, clips, drum rack etc

Well I would say the obvious place to start would be in the warping view. Many possibilities there I would say.

suppose that I transfer one channel, say bass, to ableton audio track and

start messing with warp. Can't really see the point, could you mention some

examples? Ok, stretching sounds great always, pitch shifting.. but then what?

I'm still very traditional about using ableton.. :embrassed:

I either slice and consolidate the samples into a drum machine or just do it by hand. I've found the beat mapper to be really good for destroying stuff but I think the boundaries of Acid pushed me a little more. Don't know why but I seem to enjoy making things difficult for myself.

I'm teaching myself how to use ReNoise at the minute. Made some funny Ikeda styled dark ambient by using a raw sine wave across six different channels. Needs some work but I'm liking it.

LiveSlice + Ableton Live is a good mix. Once you figure out how to control the different loops in LiveSlice with Ableton (very easy, each loop, which is made of slices, can be triggered with a MIDI note from Ableton). The interface in LiveSlice is slightly unintuitive at first but once you figure it out it becomes pretty fun.

Drop audio in empty clip in session view

Right click -> Slice to new Midi track

(If you have 7, put warp markers before the slices and do warp mode slicing)

(If you have 8, leave it in default transient detection mode)
