Until now, no one had a clear idea of what this instrument looked or sounded like.

But researchers at Edinburgh University developed a system that enabled them to design the Lituus from the best guesses of its shape and range of notes.

The result was a 2.4m (8ft) -long thin straight horn, with a flared bell at the end.

i bet the ancient egyptians had awesome drum machines.

I think Egyptian Lover has proved that point very nicely already.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

sounds awesome, despite the bum notes every now and then, hehe.

would be pretty good for ambient music imo

I don't understand, if nobody's ever heard it, and there are no pictures of it and they have no clue what it looks like, how did they 'recreate a forgotten instrument'? Would it not just be inventing an entirely new instrument?

there could have recorded data as to how it sounded, how it created said sounds, perhaps even a description, but some kind of information on the sound it makes and an idea of how such a sound is produced they could probably figure something out.

i don't know, i watched the vid and that's it.
