Live Concert Recording

Recommended Posts

I recorded a concert recently using a portable recorder namely the Zoom H2, the recording is pretty good quality considering the device was in my front pocket.

Is there a way or a program i can use to make my recording sound better i.e. less of the people talking more of the music and how would i go about doing this / what programs would i use?

Any advice or recommendations considered thanks.

there really isn't a way to remove only crowd noise from a recording but you can use things like equalization and compression plugins/effects to 'clean up' the source recording. I've done this with a few bootlegs of Autechre live shows and i think the result was a big improvement

compression not so much but equalization to a certain extent yes. You can load up a graphical eq with like 32 bands and play around with bringing up and down certain bands to see if a particular sweet spot in the sound needs to be lessened or amplified. There are more difficult to use Eqs called 'parametric' which use movable bands that can be altered . These take a little more skill but once you get the hang of what the knobs do its not hard to play around /experiment with bringing up and down random frequency ranges.

Get a program like Stienberg wave-lab or something like Sound Forge or Cooledit pro, are you on a PC or a mac?
