I think Wired misconstrued what the guy they interviewed and thought that Amon was helping on the soundtrack, whereas I got the impression that they were inspired by his music. awepittance
the Splinter Cell soundtrack sounded like really watered down Amon Tobin trying to be emulative of the popular orchestral sound in videogame scores these days. I'd be way more interested if instead made a score that was like Foley Room (the music where he doesnt try to water himself down) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46381-infamous-video-game-score/#findComment-1061034 Share on other sites

The Lighthouse....Sosho Stealth....how can you not LOVE those tracks? I just assumed it was sample based, i didn't realize it wasn't (sounds pretty much the same as his earlier sample based jazzy break cutups) . anyways i think i was really dissapointed by it because it's Amon Tobin's only surround sound 5.1 music release and the 5.1 mix in it is very very underwhelming, it might as well be stereo. i think im just pissed because Foley Room wasn't released in 5.1 and Splinter Cell was Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46381-infamous-video-game-score/#findComment-1061081 Share on other sites

Look at this from my perspective, when i bought the splinter cell soundtrack i was trying to track down every surround sound / 5.1 'electronic' music releases that was out there (very few have been made Tipper, BT, Amon Tobin, Plaid...) The Splintercell soundtrack frankly sounds like the surround mix/5.1 spread was not done by Amon Tobin, it is very uncreative and makes very little use of all 4 channels. and frankly if you play a lot of videogames like splintercell maybe its hard for you to tell how similar in style it's trying to be to a lot of existing videogames, i was expecting something a little more unconventional for a score kind of like what Bogdan Raczinski did for that xbox live shooter game, but i'll admit if the goal of Splintercell is was to blend into the background it does a great job. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « be careful *if* letting Benboi use your account, joyrex watches out for that shit really closely.... I thought it was pretty decent, even though I never actually played, saw, or gave 2 shits about the game. Go back in time and release the same music without the game, give it a tobin-y sounding title like turbospludge or something and I bet it'd magically rate up there with the rest of his work Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide BobDobalina's signature Hide all signatures CA$HNE$$ Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46381-infamous-video-game-score/#findComment-1061220 Share on other sites
