my laptop thread

ok, here's the dealio

,i want a laptop. initially i wanted to spend around 500 dollars (can)... now i'm looking for something 750-800

the first thing i think of is that windows 7 is coming out in the Fall. should i wait until then to purchase a laptop... will laptop prices drop when the new windows comes out?

what companies should i look at?

i'm thing a core duo cause i heard those were good processors, 3 gigs of ram, 15 inch screen suits me fine. something with battery life would be nice... i'm not looking for a hardcore multimedia machine. i have no intention to play games, just to run ableton live with lots of vsts open and also the portability of a laptop

my best laptop experiences are from using HP ones. they're a bit more expensive, I guess.

toshiba's good stuff for the money imo

GI raffe made a laptop advice a couple and there's some useful information there. In my experience, all laptops start to suck within 1-2 years if you use them regularly. Somehow one of my friends managed to get his dell running without any issues for 5-6 years without any issues, but he's lucky.

i had a Toshiba Satellite which ran well for 5 years, except for the DVD drive which stopped working after 18 months but then started working again after 3 years as long as the laptop was standing on its side.

It would have kept working for longer, but then it got nicked

i used it loads, but didn't move it around often.

There are some good deals knocking around, if you're in the UK this is definitely one of the best. I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to find one of these in the States

i read a good amount from the link posted in the other thread.. a laptop review site. that made we want to purchase and acer. toshiba looks good too. i think i'll probably get an acer but it's between those 3 at the moment

i got 5 years out of mine.... on A LOT... it would still be kickin strong but it got jack whilst homeless...
