i just started rocky IV...

I watched 1 on a whim yesterday. it's a good film. so 2 followed naturally... and now 3 this morning, just started 4 and all of its cold war goodness. It's amazing how the quality of these movies degrades with each iteration. i'm really dreading/excited about having to witness in 5 where tommy gunn (whose mental image i've managed to meld into a single superhuman tommy gunn/john daly combo over the years) surpass mr. t in awful badboy acting as well as rocky jr's dangly earring as the metaphor for rebellion. the highlight however, which i just watched 2 mins ago, is when rocky buys paulie a robot for his birthday. the robotic birthday song is a true cinematic gem. all of this will climax of course with a 500 year old rocky in rocky balboa which i havent seen yet. what a thrilling two days.

I don't think I've seen any of those movies.

also the death spectacle that is issued to carl weathers is absurdly hilarious. i'm about to watch that now.

watching the franchise in its entirty has a wonderful cultural time warp effect on the viewer. it's literally 4 different decades on film, and every major global event is embedded in the script. this would be perfect to launch into space for aliens to find.

How does it compare to the decay of the Karate Kid films?

I dont think the karate kid films decayed. The first is obviously the best but I fucking love the sequels just as much

And obviously the 4th is not part of the canon In my mind

Even the 2nd one is unwatchable in my opinion.

They don't degrade Fred. IV is the bestor after I of course (which is so friggin under-rated, I mean it just won best picture/director/editing at the Oscars!).

p.s.: Anybody ever been able to do a push-up with your body lying down like he does in Rocky IV?. I mean even _one_ ???
