Theremin

Should I get one of those nifty theremins and learn to play it? Would that make me a cool person? Discuss...

it would be fun, but if i was going to devote time to learning an instrument, there's others i'd put higher on the list.

yea there's no point in having a theremin besides "ooooh, that's really cool"... unless you actually do something good with it, which is rarely done

How hard is it to learn the theremin well enough to do something really good with it? And what's considered 'good' for a theremin player?

i remember seeing one played live at a radiohead concert. i had no idea what it was.

yeah jonny greenwood from radiohead is supposed to be obsessed with these things or something, they can sound pretty nice though, I believe he uses it quite a bit on his contemporary classic solo albums and it is being used on some radiohead records as well

I've got a theremin. It's a really cheap one, though...it was only about £30. It only has one antenna, for pitch (no volume control). It's fun to play around with, but if you want to play it properly, you're gonna need to spend more money than I did.
