Boxer is an almost perfect album. Their prior couple of albums were spotty good, but it all comes together on Boxer. the songs have a lazy beauty to them. Slow Show could make you melt if you're sensitive. Fake Empire and Mistaken for Strangers make such a great one-two punch to open up the album that you might tempted to just put those two on repeat and ignore the rest. but it's a great album start to finish. they've got a fifth album that will hopefully be released soon.

I'm particularly fond of the Brainy-Squalor Victoria-Green Gloves trilogy.

hm, i can see the appeal - it's like interpol but not embarrassing, and slightly less derivative of what has gone before. vocalist has a better singing voice than a lot of indie rock people.

nevertheless i don't see why the critics are going wild. it's not like it's late talk talk or arcade fire or early talking heads or even the obvious joy division groundbreaking.

it's pretty good and if you like indie rock a lot maybe great, but it leaves me a bit meh.
