Guest meneedit
how much would you pay somebody for fixing an earth wire on an electric guitar? Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46780-guitar-question/ Share on other sites
modey
i wouldn't pay anyone anything, i'd do it myself. it's pretty easy! all you need is a screwdriver and a soldering iron at the most. I seriously wouldn't know what to do. I'd fuck it up for sure. Anyway, the reason I ask is because I recently bought a Mexican fender on eBay and it came without a plate on the back. the guy tried to tell me its because the plate is for decorative purposes only. The guitar just happens to have a noise problem........ and its missing a plate....... hmmm. lol anyways im gonna get a friend of a friend to fix it but he is likely to charge me for it. modey
i assume you're talking about the plate that covers the tremolo arm assembly? if you did have one, it'd be plastic, and wouldn't make a difference in terms of noise. what kind of noise are you getting? if it's only audible when you're not touching the strings or a metal part on the guitar, then it's an earth problem. if not, it's your pickups - usually you'll get some buzzing when using the first or last settings on the pickup selector switch, and i think also in the middle (depending on how it's wired), ie not the two 'in-between' settings.
