Guest Bramsworth
Recently got a Oberheim Matrix 6 hooked up and am using a Turtlebeach usb-midi interface. Problem is I have both the MIDI IN and OUT connected, yet when i run tests through the software for the cable, it doesn't show anything is playing. It trys to play numerous patches but I hear nothing playing at all when it says it's going through all of them. I'm probably not being too specific, but that's because I'm so new to this that I don't really know anymore than that. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? I'm guessing something a lot of new comers can't figure out at first. Guest welcome to the machine
this may be an obvious one, if so sorry, but have you actually got anything (ie amp, soundcard) plugged into the synths audio output? midi in and out is just for data, what note was pressed, how long for, how hard etc. the midi out just sends this data from the synth back to the computer, not audio. Guest blicero
some USB/MIDI keyboards don't send midi through the MIDI ports when the USB is plugged in. Guest Bramsworth
Ya, I know about the audio. I have it hooked up to an old amp and it plays fine. I'm going to have to do more experimenting or something here. bilcero, what do you mean they don't send any midi exactly? As in they're just completely not usable with a midi/usb cable? That doesn't sound right.. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46784-midi-not-working-on-keyboard/#findComment-1072643 Share on other sites
Guest acridavid
This might sound stupid but I know new comers that make this mistake: Have you connected the MIDI OUT from the interface to the MIDI IN on the Oberheim and the MIDI OUT from the Oberheim to the MIDI IN on the interface? If not, that's the way it should be connected. Some people think out goes to out and in goes to in, ..which is not at all logical in my world :P Edited June 25, 2009 by acridavid Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46784-midi-not-working-on-keyboard/#findComment-1072647 Share on other sites
Guest Bramsworth
This interface is just a MIDI OUT and IN on one side and one USB cable on the other, so each one doesn't have a separate usb thing to plug in. Guest Bramsworth
This would be an edit, but I don't see the edit option anywhere suddenly.. Anyway I've done all I can and I just am at a total loss. The USB cable does come up under the options of any matrix 6 editors I've downloaded, yet nothing seems to ever happen. As far as I know there's not really any options on the keyboard itself that I should need to set...I already chose ON for the OMNI MODE option so that all MIDI channels are open, I don't know what else it could want. I hope someone can help me out here :/ Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46784-midi-not-working-on-keyboard/#findComment-1072673 Share on other sites
Guest Bramsworth
acridavid, you were right after all! Being such a beginner I read your post the opposite of what you were telling me, since I was expecting midi out to go into the keyboards midi out and same for midi in. I feel dumb now. Thanks :) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46784-midi-not-working-on-keyboard/#findComment-1072709 Share on other sites
Guest acridavid
Haha cool you got it fixed. I see that happening more often, someone asking me: where does this cable from my amplifier go? into the fx pedals -> volume pedal -> guitar? Then I answer, well yeah but then the other way around since the source is the guitar and the ending point is the amp. Whatever complicated connection, it all comes down to input and output, sender/receiver. Just think super logically ;) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/46784-midi-not-working-on-keyboard/#findComment-1074648 Share on other sites
