I've read that the price will be about 800 dollars? I don't know what kind of synth this is but 800 bucks sounds expensive for such a tiny synth

That's only something men with little synthesizers say!

I think its fake or a tester to see what the response is.

Personally I don't see the point, the Mopho was a entry good budget box but costing any more you may as well save a couple of quid and get the 08 module with a decent UI.

I thought the mopho was cheap and a good concept, the fact that it was monophonic was kinda a turn off for me, so this is kinda nice if you could program 4 patterns of mophos at a time.

little known fact. that guy in the pic follows him around holding that up everywhere dave smith can be found. hence why he makes such tiny synths.

That is Dave's assistant Igor.

Regarding price, what's the cheapest brand new 2 osc analogue polysynth out there right now? I've got a feeling this will be it.

And if it's actually 4 part multitimbral with 4 sequencers... hmm....

edit: compared to the Prophet 08 module, this has half the polyphony (will be no big deal for 75% of users), but adds two sub oscillators per voice. If it is $US800, it'll be a little over half the price.

So far it's looking like:

Based on the mopho

4 voices = 8 analog oscs, 4 sub oscs, 4 analog filters

4 output

polychain out

usb interface

$800 USD

if this is true, Dave has finally outdone himself :)

...and will hopefully release a kb version with ridiculous amount of extra knobs

Teh sub oscs make the mopho/tetr4 a completely different sounding beast than the prophet 08

Announced!

tetra_page.jpg

  Quote

  •
  • Affordable, fully programmable poly synth with a 100% analog signal path.
  • Classic, real analog sound—including legendary Curtis analog low-pass filter.
  • Four-part multitimbral capability with four separate outputs.
  • Combo Mode for huge unison patches, stacked sequences, and "modular-style" poly sounds.
  • Expandable: poly chain with other Tetras, Prophet '08, and Mopho for expanded polyphony
  • Just 7.9" x 5" (20.07 cm x 12.7 cm).

The voice architecture is based on the Prophet '08, but with the addition of a sub-octave generator for each oscillator and a fully programmable feedback loop for each voice. That breaks down to two DCOs, a resonant low-pass filter, three DADSR envelope generators, four LFOS, deep modulation routing, an arpeggiator, and a 16 x 4 analog-style step sequencer per voice. Feedback is capable of producing effects ranging from mild distortion to fairly extreme harmonic instability. (That's a good thing.) The possibilities are nearly endless. And the audio signal path is 100% analog.

Up to four Tetras can be poly chained for eight, twelve, or sixteen voices total. When used with a Prophet '08, up to two Tetras can be poly chained for a maximum of sixteen voices. In addition, the Prophet's front panel controls map directly to almost all of Tetra's parameters, so the Prophet acts as a programmer and control surface. And a Mopho can be connected to Tetra's Poly Chain Out for five-voice operation.

I like how they are bascically admitting here that all their analogues are the same synth packaged for different markets.

Of course they will. But eventually people are going to start bitching non-stop about the interface and not liking the software editor, as they are doing with the mopho.

If they could utilize the usb to have the tetra be a vst instrument or at least an insert effect (allowing audio in thru the signal path, since there is no 1/4 audio in), then this thing would be a grand slam. I don' see that happening tough as dsi is a hardware company and as innovative as dave has been in the past i don't see him wanting to dive into the software realm again (he helped make one of the first "pro" or largely commercial soft synths: Seer Systems "Reality").

thats pretty cool, I didn't realize they put a feedback loop in the filter block. Its a nice tool to change the character and with certain filter configurations and high feedback, you can get some really chaotic filtering and distortion.
