Cheers peeps. the VSTi monologue or maybe its one of the other default built in cubase SX synths has a preset called "gangsta whine" and it sounds exactly like that GTA vice city/bone thugs n harmony sound. If you have SX take a look at all the built in synths and see if it has that preset. in the meantime i will try to find it. Guest iep
any monosynth with nice portamento will do i guess that dré made it with his minimoog also: venetian snares - deadman dj (for the best use of that fucking sound) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4702-phat-gangster-whiney-synth-whistley-sound/#findComment-96367 Share on other sites
chim
Don't you do any synthesis of your own? christ, it isn't that hard.. hi pitched filtered saw with portamento and you're set. Guest greenbank
yes, ohio players - funky worm. the original was a minimoog or a moog modular i think. *goes and looks* it's just one osc, sawtooth, lightly filtered with a wee bit of res and remember lots of glide! glide is the thing that might not be possible in some softsynths, but anything decent at all should be able to make a passable attempt. Guest iep
might be one of the most easy sounds to synthesise actually Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4702-phat-gangster-whiney-synth-whistley-sound/#findComment-96417 Share on other sites

Guest Promo
I'm trying but I ain't getting anything remotely gangster. Most of the soft synths I've farted around with don't have portamento. Guest Iain C
I fucking love this sound. Funky Worm is such a classic track... Promo I think someone posted a Minimoog-alike VST in the plugins thread... might be a good place to start Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4702-phat-gangster-whiney-synth-whistley-sound/#findComment-96618 Share on other sites

Guest Analogue Wings
Look for presets with "Worm" in the name. Guest A/D
No. Some guy who used to engineer for Dre came into a music shop where a friend of mine worked, and the friend asked him the verisame question. This is the answer I was passed on, but obviously I haven't done any research.
