Recommended Posts

Anyone know how to get that phat g-funk whiney whistley synth sound heard on lots of DRE records circu 1990 and also particularly on the intro music to GTA Vice City? Any vsti and particular settings and/or more specifically samples you guys can hit me with? I've been trying to find that particular sound. Cheers peeps.

the VSTi monologue or maybe its one of the other default built in cubase SX synths has a preset called "gangsta whine" and it sounds exactly like that GTA vice city/bone thugs n harmony sound. If you have SX take a look at all the built in synths and see if it has that preset. in the meantime i will try to find it.

Don't you do any synthesis of your own? christ, it isn't that hard.. hi pitched filtered saw with portamento and you're set.

yes, ohio players - funky worm. the original was a minimoog or a moog modular i think. *goes and looks* it's just one osc, sawtooth, lightly filtered with a wee bit of res and remember lots of glide! glide is the thing that might not be possible in some softsynths, but anything decent at all should be able to make a passable attempt.

yeah i've made similar sounds with all kinds of instruments and have put them in my track

you just gotta be in those upper octives with portomento
