Don Caballero - American Don

I always forget that this is one of my favorite albums. It holds my attention like no other, and the technical skill involved in this impromptu album is just amazing. Anyone know this album?

i haven't heard it, i've only got their second album (which is pretty freakin' amazing), i should get hold of it sometime! american don is post-ian williams, yeah?

also, i must add that don caballero are pretty idm for a 3-piece post-rock band.

i think ad is pretty good. it is certainly more laid back in some ways than earlier stuff. what burns never returns is the best for me, tho.

american don is so fresh, dear lawd

but i must say What Burns Never Returns is the superior album in my eyes. changed my life, actually.

the EPs that Battles released are incredible too. EP B+C I think is the name of the release... it's fantastic.

i should note that the andrew hill album sounds nothing like that.

just got american don and what burns never returns on emusic. only halfway through american don so far but it is pretty excellent! a lot less atonal than don caballero 2.

k I never previously realized how much this is intentionally or unintentionally related to Steve Reich-ian minimalism. I have been looking for music that really fuzes jazz or rock with that kind of stuff. I guess math rock kind of was that in a sense. As for Reich-ish jazz this is pretty interesting and I think some aspects of it really make me think of American Don:

yes, the aforementioned albums (what burns... and american don) are cleaner, more nuanced, and more relaxed albums. definitely a sort of progression into more pleasant and stimulating territories
