I can never keep up with his output, but I'll look for it the next time I'm in a record shop. I was a bit disappointed to find that it was in fact a traditional piano trio with drums and bass. I was hoping for music for three pianos. I'd love to see what he could do with that, or player pianos, for that matter.

Did either of you guys ever check out his Hemophiliac recordings he did with Ikue Mori and Mike Patton? I've been listening to that a lot lately.

i currently have a throbbing headache, and just thinking about zorn+patton is making it worse. i haven't heard the Hemophiliac stuff but I have heard the four albums he did in that series. Six Litanies for Heliogabalus was incredible, thats top 5 Zorn for me right there.

then there's naked city, spillane, torture garden. the dreamers. after that it's up in the air. i still have a lot more listening to do, but i've enjoyed masada electric at the mountains of madness (incredible jam), cobra, etc.

some of his best stuff is when he totally goes freeform. like on locus solus. some of the weirdest sounds on that album.

that said, i think this new one is also top 5 zorn for me. the melodies are pretty incredible. and it's got this sort of nightmarish/delusional vibe to it thats cool.

John Zorn's done some amazing stuff, but for some mind boggling reason no record store stocks his music where I live. I did manage to find Xaphan, but only because the much less famous Secret Chiefs 3 covered it. Go figure.
