Mp3's damaging your hearing

Recommended Posts

A friend was telling me last night that mp3's will damage your ears more than lossless formats.

Anyone know anything about this? Does the claim have any validity?

I did a quick google search and found this: http://www.bio.net/bionet/mm/neur-sci/2002-November/052969.html

But it still sounds like bullshit.

Yep it's bull, it's basically like saying looking at jpegs will ruin your eyesight... (well I guess it depends what kind of jpegs you're looking at youknowwhatimean....)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

utter nonsense.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Mp3s cut out the really high frequencies. If anything they'd damage your hearing less.

But really it all depends on how loud you listen to music.

i'm not very good at word puzzles, but i'm guessing that means...

"tell cooper to sand my donk"

am i right?

some harsh aliasing in lower bitrate mp3s will certainly be less comfortable to listen to at moderate-high volume.

but there's just some confusion... there have been articles that point out the practice of listening to personal music players (mp3 players) at higher volumes than the user may realize and danger it poses to one's hearing. so when these headlines hit the word of mouth train it turns from "mp3 players may damage you hearing" to "i heard mp3s damage your hearing, have you heard about that? i skimmed an article on it today -hey, do you like animal collective?"

damage??? Might be a little worse just in the way it distorts and alias's the high frequencies, but if you are already using suitable volumes for listening I see no reason to worry.

Songs About My Cats ruins your hearing.

Yeah, vsnares pretty consistently makes me lose a bit of hearing anytime I listen to him through headphones. I always get that high pitched ringing in one ear that indicates the last time I'm ear going to hear said frequency after listening. No more vsnares for me.

To be fair, I was through with Snares ages ago. But Songs About My Cats just sticks out as particularly annoying to listen to. And shit.

So I talked to a speech pathology friend of mine and she says it's bullshit, and the only thing that will ruin your hearing in accordance to sound is high volumes [which I knew in the first place, but needed a second professional opinion].
