audio to synth?

looking for a plugin or something that will take an audio file (of me singing) and play it as a synth. kind of hard for me to explain. so i just want the midi notes to translate into the synth, not the timbre or formant of my voice or anything like that. so i want to be able to record me singing a little melody, then hear a synth play out the melody with a saw wave or something

i got the idea from ableton lives vocoder pitch tracking function. it kind of does what i described above...it sounds awesome, but i think im looking for software to analyze the audio file then place midi notes onto a piano role for me

you can do this with melodyne, although that is an expensive solution.

edit: convert audio files (you singing) to midi is what you'd be doing with melodyne; then you'd just import the midi file into your sequencer and use whatever synth you want.

i never really got into it but i heard kantos will do that
