delet...
installed it on the home server ... and straight away started torrenting at 160-200% faster than previous rates .. today thought it's dropped right back .. and it's not even a particularly peaky time for data throughput in this city ... so it could just be these particluar torrents .. that are not happening ... hrmm so i'm just curious as to whether what i was witnessing was an anomaly or .. if there is some relationship between switching to windows 7 and better torrenting .. Joyrex
Probably has more to do with your torrent app's settings being correct, and Windows 7's ports being more accessible...? delet...
win7 is much less testing on resources though .. so i thought with more cpu .. hrmm i dunno .. hence the thread ... we'll see what happens over the next few days ... could have just been a one off night coincidence sort of thing ..(as i'm not getting those speeds tonight .. hence nothing to do with app settings) .. Guest my usernames always really suck
On 7/20/2009 at 7:37 PM, Joyrex said: Probably has more to do with your torrent app's settings being correct, and Windows 7's ports being more accessible...? It has to do with the quality of how the network drivers are written, and I don't mean the hardware drivers necessarily. I notice the same profound performance difference in network transfer speed when I'm in Linux compared to transfer speeds to the same files on the same remote locations when I'm in Windows XP. This is kind of funny because Windows XP forked from Windows NT, whose TCP/IP implementation was based on early BSD systems. So, Linux > BSD once again. It has to do with the quality of how the network drivers are written, and I don't mean the hardware drivers necessarily. this is why there would be a discernible change in DL/UL speed.
