Personally, I have a hard-on for just about anything post-apocalyptic so while it looks like it was lifted directly from the game, I still like seeing stuff like this onscreen. I'm glad to see The Hughes Brothers directing again too. Mila Kunis doesn't bode well though.

stick a hockey mask on him and replace the knife for a baseball bat and WHAM, Fallout 3.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

It's directed by the Hughes Brothers, so you already know it's not just a boring Hollywood movie, that there is directorial substance existing behind it's creation.

Enjoy.

My dissertation was on apocalyptic films and this was one of the best.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Really? Do you have any other suggestions? I really can't get enough of post apocalyptic stuff so any off-the-radar films would be awesome to know about.

Edit: And, if you have any desire to share, would be interested in reading your dissertation (seriously, I have a complete lack on mentally stimulating material to read )

Thanks for the interest but it's something I'd rather keep personal to be honest, no offence!

If you are interested in this stuff here is some reading that helped me and is no doubt better than what I produced anyway. A good place to start is Susan Sontag's The Imagination of Disaster http://www.iiiiiiiiii.net/random/id/id.pdf

Mick Broderick's Surviving Armageddon: Beyond the Imagination of Disaster is an interesting read and gives loads of quality examples of films from this genre that you can go and dig up http://www.depauw.edu/sfs/backissues/61/broderick61art.htm

Finally this by Eric Dodson is pretty fun http://www.westga.edu/~psydept/dodson-postapocalyptic.html

Some of my favourites were:

Mad Max 2 obviously

On The Beach - Stars Gregory Peck!

The Quiet Earth - The last bloke on Earth goes mental, with a nice ambiguous ending. I loved this one.

Threads - A nuclear bomb is dropped on Sheffield - Sounds hilarious but it is incredibly depressing, well worth a watch though.

I'm not the only non-Australian who knows this movie exists?

No offense taken! I completely understand wanting to keep some things private.

Thanks for the suggestions too, will provide hours of entertainment I'm sure .

I remember watching The Quiet Earth when I was a kid - it absolutely stunned me, especially the last scene - like somebody took one my dreams and put it up on the screen. Needless to say, I have TONS of post-apocalyptic dreams which is one of the reasons why I love this stuff. . . . even the really bad films.

I was able to nab the practically unwatched vhs of this before the video store I worked at destroyed it. Great, strange film.
