last minute flights

trains in the uk are fucking expensive. if theoretically i suddenly decided i wanted to jump on a plane within the next few hours to go visit a mate in glasgow... is there any way i can get a plane for cheap? like how is it done - can i ring up airlines and ask if they've had any cancellations for flights to glasgow, then take that seat for cheap?

You looked into coaches? They obviously take a shit load longer but they are generally much cheaper than trains. I usually use National Express.

I just used it this past June to get a car rental for my vacation - not only did I get a good rental from a reputable company via that site, but I did it all (from reserving it online to picking it up) in under an hour. Plus, I saved around 200.00 from what I was going to pay previously when my car rental company fucked up and rented my car out to someone else (hence my need of finding a last-minute rental.
