After dropping one of the best beat tapes from 2008, Oh No is back with some Ethiopian funk this time.

The album is supposed to come out in August but Oh No released a 8 minute snippets mix to get you excited till the album.

Grab the mix from http://www.stonesthr...stonesthrow-com

I'll be giving this a listen. I enjoyed Dr. No's Oxperiment, where he sampled Turkish funk.

This album is finally out. Its only available in a mp3 format from the stones throw website.

sounding really good on the first listen.

It says CD & LP release tba.

I agree this is sound nice. I think I'll enjoy it more than Dr. No's Oxperiment (which was good, but got boring for me). Maybe due to the source material.

ahh my bad, I guess they must have decided to release an LP as well but I bought the mp3 anyways. After listening to it couple of times, I love it but I dont think its better than Dr. No's Oxperiment. I maybe a bit biased because I knew a bit about Turkish funk before he released Oxperiments while I know nothing about Ethiopian music.

I didn't either until recently, but there is some really nice laid-back, funky jazz. Check out some of Mulatu Astatke's stuff like the Ethiopiques 4 comp or the recent collaboration with The Heliocentrics- you won't be disappointed! I would guess that there are definitely some Mulatu samples on Ethiopium, looking forward to hearing the rest!

I agree, man. I think Oxperiments was a pretty decent album, had a good list of great tracks on it. Ethiopium I've heard about 4-5 times through since it was first released, and I'm still not loving it. It sounds like true Ethiopian music, which is maybe why I don't like it; I'm in the mood to listen to beats, but I really don't hear beats.

It's 6/10 at best for me, he's done so much better (ex. Exodus was killer). Maybe I'll listen one more time to it.
