This month, Empire magazine ran an article on a film dubbed by those in the know as 'The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies'. This film is The Room, a film made back in 2003, which stars Tommy Wiseau, who also wrote, directed and produced.

Up until reading this article, I was unaware of this movie. It's apparantly gained quite a cult following, so much so that it regualrly screens once a month in Los Angeles (and I think New York), where it attracts fans from all over to come and see the catastrophe on the silver screen.

I subsequently investigated these claims on the interents, and having now seen the movie in its entirety, I can confirm it is one of the movie gloriously inept movies ever made. The plotting is atrocious with things happening for no reason that are never mentioned ever again, the dialogue stilted and unintentionally hilarious, and the acting is the lowest grade plywood, with Wiseau himself taking the prize for worst performance ever.

This may already be old news to some, but I thought I'd introduce this to those who don't know about it. The trailer, along with some of the movies worst offending scenes are below (for reference, Mr Wiseau is the long-haired foeign sounding gentleman):

I think he probably did. The audio seems to dip between sound recorded on-set, and ADR dialogue ...... sometimes in the middle of a scene.

yes his voice is dubbed for most of the movie as well as in his behind the scenes interviews. it's hilarious to listen to the audio go in and out of different room reverbs while he's being interviewed for absolutely no reason.

tim & eric exposed the masses to this guy.... All I have to say is nonono. He did a decent job on the TEASGJ show though. which makes me think "The Room" was totally tounge in cheeck.

i agree.....unless hes like the son of an extremely powerful oil baron and could afford all this shit unquestioningly, someone along the way had to tell him the movie was going horribly...and he couldnt act. theres no way he wanted this to be a legitimate drama.

totally, If it was billed as a Legit Drama, than it HAS to have been said ironically.

knew about wiseau before tim and eric. loved pig man. and yes this movie is funny.

He was told that. He fired the crew like 5 times and ploughed on regardless. Nobody liked him enough to offer him proper constuctive criticism and people in fact probably wanted him to finish the film and make an utter douche of himself.

If The Room was a deliberate comedy right from day one then Tommy Wiseau is the greatest actor/comedian that ever lived.

his intro into the Tim & Eric show "directed" by TW. It's pretty damn funny how they put subtitles on everything he says, despite it just being english with an accent (on T&E)

naw, it was T&E all the way. But it would have been lulz to the max if they led him on to believe he WAS directing...
