Why does the music from Mouse on Mars sound so human?

Mouse on Mars has this warm, human quality to their music that I can't fully explain. It sounds like all of the tracks are not layered directly over each other, like alot of electronic music. It sounds like individual sequences are played together like a traditional band, introducing small imprecise differences of timing. Is that what they're doing? I've seen them play live a couple of times (GREAT shows), but i'm not sure if they perform their music the same way in the studio.
