Guest David R James
BOC are a constant source of nostalgia for me, more than any other artist(s). The ambient tracks in particular. Even 'The Campfire headphase' just brings back floods of memories and that only came out in 2005. Does anyone else get this? Is it the aged, but timeless aesthetic of the tracks? I don't know if a new album could beat anything that came before it. I could put on 'Tears from the compound', sit with my missus and stare out of the window at the sunset and it would immediately create a brand new moment. Magic , thanks BOC Edited August 17, 2009 by David R James Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48209-boc-nostalgia/ Share on other sites

Guest Rabid
I really get much more nostalgic with RDJ's tracks. His stuff is just perfect. For me, BOC is more moody than nostalgic. Either uplifting or depressing, but always forward- and not backward-looking. For me. I can't say I have a nostalgic attachment to their music, because I started listening to it about 5 years ago, just long enough to listen to their classic material before checking out Campfire. Their music is driven by a theme of nostalgia that grips a lot of people, myself included, but I can't say it evokes my childhood as much, since I grew up in the 90s and not the 70s or 80s, so saying I'm truly nostalgic for it would be based off somewhat false childhood memories. They just do an excellent job making very broad, mysterious yet relatable music, it's a familiar mood and vibe they capture instead of specific influences. Yep, its the vibe rather than any certain influence that evokes my thoughts. Vibes are the key element, over techinal ,when it comes to tracks that are main stay in my playlist. As others have also said, it reminds them of times before BoC, and its pretty similar for me too, my nostalgia and memories arent souly based on the exact time of listening to the music but over selected periods such as living in a different places, people i know and people ive met.
