Budakhan and Music is Rotted

i know there are a lot of appreciation threads for songs. but i wanted to do these releases as a whole, along with their style. these two albums have such a loose, gritty, downtempo feel to them of which i really love. as opposed to the (and not that i think this is bad) tightly wound spastic attacks that just about everything else was (excluding Hello everything and JAS). but this style of music that he had on both Budakhan and Music is rotted is my favorite style he has done. i get into it easier, and it sounds a lot moodier. and the visuals i get are so much more human and organic, but still in arid, bleak greyscale. it has a hypnotic hook to it. especially the beautiful chimes of Iambic 5 poetry, and the chilling clankiness of Gong Acid. it's almost haunting. really a different experience from the rest of the discography.

Agreed, I love the mood on these releases although they can be a bit inconsistent. A lot of this is reminiscent to late 60s/early 70s Miles and Herbie. Don't Go Plastic and Dust Switch ftw, two of my fav Squarepusher tracks. Really unique sounding tracks, would love some recommendations that are similar to this aside from the two I mentioned.

Yeah I've been getting into Music is Rotted One Note much more these days. I originally gave it short shrift, but I've been listening to In A Silent Way by Miles Davis and I've been craving more of this kind of jazz. Any jazz aficionados with some good recommendations?

Budakhan is such an underrated album.

One track that I feel gets completely overlooked is the opener off of the Maximum Priest EP 'Song: Our Underwater Torch'. It's such a beautiful song that could have fit on Budakhan perfectly if the production were comparably executed. I think it's one of Tom's best melodies. It reminds me of something Bach could have written if he'd grown up listening to dub.

my bad.

Music for the rotted one note and Go Plastic i think are Squarepushers most 'mature' albums, the JAS and Nluscent sound a little too much like he's trying to too hard, the effortless genius nature of Go plastic and Rotted one note have not been surpassed imo

This is the second time in a row you have called it "music for the rotted". Explanation?
