buying a TV

I have about $700 to spend on a tv. I pretty much just want to watch dvds. flat screen is cool because it takes up less space.

anyone buy a tv recently and can share the knowledge?

definitely watch the prices on amazon for a few weeks, if you're diligent you could save several hundred dollars. i got the 40" Samsung B630 for basically $800 since they were doing a $100 amazon credit. you'll save 25-30% buying online that you would spend in the stores on markup, delivery charges and sales tax.

Had a 50 inch Vizio plasma for $1200, but the thing started having problems, so we took it back. Then we got a 25 inch Vizio LCD for $250. Pretty good value.

get a panasonic G10 series plasma. incredible price/performance ratio. LCDs can't touch it - fantastic black levels and contrast.

that's just too much money. we're looking at this one. Less money, but our place is small so 32" is probably as big as we can go.

That's a good choice, you really can't go wrong with Panasonic and Samsung LCDs. Make sure you get the right cables and hook everything up correctly for the best picture quality.

i have a 32 inch Sony Bravia....works great, and its 720 apparently, but in the PS3 it comes in at 1080p res....i dont understand it, but im happy with it.

Your TV must be 1080p because if you set your ps3/360 to a higher setting than what it's capable of the screen distorts. 720 can go to 1080i, not 1080p.
