Malcolm Middleton: Waxing Gibbous

I've only just discovered the wondrous Waxing Gibbous, by former Arab Strap alumni Malcolm Middleton, and it's one of the best albums I've heard in ages! I think I remember reading a few positive reviews, but never got around to checking it out until now.

Any fans out there? I've heard this is supposed to be one of his most upbeat albums, but are there any other albums I should check out?

edit: now "waxing gibbons", with a photo of a hairless gibbon howling, would have made a good cover

aidan moffat's lucky pierre stuff is quite good though.

How so? waxing gibbous is the name of a lunar phase.

No, waxing means growing bigger and gibbous means protuberant. A waxing gibbous moon is growing in size and appearing to bulge out.

hm. I was going purely on the way I've seen the words used in context in literature, back when I, you know, read books. You either see "the moon was waxing" (in the process of getting full) or "it was a gibbous moon" (ie., full). So "waxing gibbous" seems somewhat redundant. Regardless, it's certainly pretentious.

edit: and I have bothered to look it up now, I guess you can have both waxing and waning gibbous moons. Whaddya know.

that album aidan did recently with all his old demo's of arab strap stuff on it is quite funny - but only because i play on some of the tracks.

malcolm and i got horsed from the arches one night and ended up on a christian aid homeless bus with some hookers and a guy who'd just been stabbed whilst stealing lead off a roof.

true story.

What did you play? Which tracks.

I love Aidans stuff but not so keen on Malcolms. Its alright but not great. Not heard Mals newest one though, will check it out.

you're right actually i just haven't listened to his stuff for ages... i played the hell out of Hypnogogia and Touchpool when they came out.

also i had no idea that lucky pierre is the middle man in a 3-way buttfuck.

middleton's alright... he's the awkward unwilling king of all miserable-ists. Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine and Into the Woods are worth a listen.

i heard about arab strap's 'importance' a few years back so slsk'd a few albums ... god god was i disapointed .. plz tell me that it's better than that bands schtuff ..
