Guest Coalbucket PI
I like the feature in firefox that lets you type directly into the address bar and if its not a valid web address then it just does a google search and you normally find what you want. But i cant see how I can choose the site it searches through; it changed to Google India a few weeks ago, no idea how I did that, and now I just updated and its searching through some sort of Vuze related google search... I think Vuze tried to install a toolbar add-on which i removed but whatever. Any help? Joyrex
Normally it should use your default search engine you set for the search box off to the right - but to change it... 1. Type about:config in Firefox location bar and press Enter 2. Type keyword in Filter textbox and you will see only the preference keyword.URL. 3. Double-click on keyword.URL and change the value to: http://www.google.com/searchbtnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&q= Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures Follow WATMM on Twitter: @WATMMOfficial Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48836-searching-with-the-address-bar-in-firefox/#findComment-1119724 Share on other sites

Sorry, it appears I left a crucial bit out: start again with about:config then type browser.search in the Filter bar. There is a setting called browser.search.defaulturl it should be set to http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q= also a setting called browser.search.defaultenginename Make sure you change that from “Yahoo” to “Google” Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures Follow WATMM on Twitter: @WATMMOfficial Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48836-searching-with-the-address-bar-in-firefox/#findComment-1119865 Share on other sites

Joyrex
Sorry, that was for the old version - look for browser.search.searchEnginesURL and change the value to https://%LOCALE%.add-ons.mozilla.com/%LOCALE%/firefox/%VERSION%/search-engines/ This is for 3.5.3 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures Follow WATMM on Twitter: @WATMMOfficial Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48836-searching-with-the-address-bar-in-firefox/#findComment-1119903 Share on other sites
Guest Coalbucket PI
That setting was already correct. I figured it must have been something to do with that keyword.URL setting so I searched google for help with it; I think I've fixed it now, I eventually found a useful help page here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.URL Thanks for the help papa Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48836-searching-with-the-address-bar-in-firefox/#findComment-1120450 Share on other sites
