kaini
Broadcast and The Focus Group We're very excited to confirm that in October this year, Warp records will be releasing a mini album by Broadcast and The Focus Group - we're hoping to have copies available in the Ghost Box shop when its available. Mind How You Go (Revised Edition) The next release on Ghost Box will be a special extended Second Edition version of The Advisory Circle's Mind How You Go. Vinyl and download only, this version will feature new material by The Advisory Circle, and re-imaginings by Belbury Poly and special guests Seeland ( http://www.l-o-a-f.com/index.php?artist_id=92 ) Reveal hidden contents Seeland was formed by Tim Felton (ex Broadcast) and Billy Bainbridge (ex Plone) in the winter of 2004/05 amid the fallout from Birmingham’s ‘Retro Futurist Electronic scene’ – a group of musicians and artists inspired by space age pop, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Joe Meek and eccentric 60’s library music. Fusing their Krautrock influences (afterall, they are named after a Neu! track) and a love of all things exotica, ‘Goodbye’ showcases Seeland’s ability to take all those strings and things and combine them into their familiar but strange soundworld. Unlike their contemporaries from Seeland is not dominated by ‘retro-ism’, but use their complex analogue pop sound to create something fresh, catchy and accessible. Imagine to yourself what would have happen if the Byrds and Kraftwerk were to collaborate on a song in the penthouse office of the Brill Building. The b-side, ‘Tears of an Architect’ is a 10+ minute epic opus, comprised of 4 sub-sections. Moving sharply between a (Delia) Derbyshire-esque drone, tape manipulation a-la ‘the faust tapes’ and British medieval horror folk in the style of Paul Giovanni’s Wicker Man soundtrack. Caretstik
How the hell did you restrain yourself in your OP kaini? Fucking grand news, 2009 keeps on getting better and better for new releases. Having the extended 'Mind How You Go' on vinyl too, even though I can't play it until who knows when. I reckon the collab is going to be amazing if the live stuff from a while back is anything to go by. Caretstik
I remember the last Seeland album cropping up on bleep (I think) recently. At the time I wasn't overly convinced by the samples, but I think I'll give them a proper go. In fact I need to with the new Advisory Circle coming. And yeah, I know I'm a dick for judging an album on 30 second segments. Caretstik
Been checking them kaini, and you're right. Colour Dream from Tomorrow Today grabbed me particularly. I'm buying these when the weekend's shenanigans are done so I can give the time they deserve. I remember the reason I checked the album out on bleep was I saw a hint of House's GB signature in the graphics (Seeland's design really looks like House's GB CD surface art). This collab with Advisory Circle is going to work and work well, I'd say. This collab with Advisory Circle is going to work and work well, I'd say. ftfy ;) i was so fucking sure that was broadcast on scarlet ceremony. but jim (jim looks like vic reeves) said nope. i had a listen to mind how you go tonight for the first time in ages i'd forgotten how good it was. i can't wait til my vinyl gets all dusty and crackly lol i'd love to see a vinyl focus group release, esp. hey let loose your love. considering its length it might even fit on a 10" *fap* Reveal hidden contents and of course, being focus group, in theory the more scratched it got the better it would be :P Edited September 12, 2009 by kaini Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide kaini's signature Hide all signatures On 5/7/2013 at 11:06 PM, ambermonk said: I know IDM can be extreme On 6/3/2017 at 11:50 PM, ladalaika said: this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48864-broadcastfocus-group-collaboration/#findComment-1120815 Share on other sites
Caretstik
I consider myself fixed No GB vinyl would ever be complete without a cloudy layer of fingerprints across the playing surface. The only time I would ever revoke the death sentence for this. The Green Kingdom
The Seeland album is great, very catchy with some subtle library/radiophonic vibes. Saw that the Broadcast collab was coming out a couple weeks back, very exciting. Where is the album already guys! Guest tidbit
indeed... seelands' tears of an architect, is great , and will that revised edition be just a remakes or a original album plus remakes? do tell Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/48864-broadcastfocus-group-collaboration/#findComment-1125785 Share on other sites
Caretstik
From the wording, I'd guess that this is just remakes and new tracks. "Just"... fuck that's poor phrasing, this will be pure win. Guest Iain C
Did anyone see the Broadcast cover story in the current issue of The Wire? Very interesting and illuminating interview, they talked quite a lot about the new record and how it was written and produced, as well as speaking more generally about their influences. And Trish Keenan is still a vision of pure loveliness. PS, hi WATMM, I still don't have the internet in my new house. I'm in a Yates's pub with free wi-fi. The Green Kingdom
The video and song on the Warp homepage are excellent: http://warp.net Pretty much exactly what one would expect out of a collab between the two.
