needs Speeches for assignment

Recommended Posts

so here I am researching all of these speeches by Malcolm X for this Rhetoric assignment when I realise - oh fuck, I have to find a "contemporary" cultural or political figure.

Basically I need to find anyone who is fairly well known, a great public speaker, and who's speeches can be found online. (oh and they have to be alive)

I'd rather shoot myself in the face than analyse Barack Obama or George Bush, so if there's anyone out there who you guys really admire, despise, whatever -I'd appreciate your suggestions.

Criteria: must be alive, and have transcriptions of (at least 3 of) their speeches online.

Thanks WATMM, I know you'll come through

I'd go with David Foster Wallace, contemporary cultural figure, recently deceased (2008).

I'm sure you'll be able to find at least three transcriptions online.

thanks man. I didn't know about this guy, I'm looking into it now

and no, I guess they don't have to be alive, just be considered a contemporary figure (whatever that means)

still kicking myself bout the Malcolm X thing though, his speeches are awesome

thanks guys. idrn, i don't know if those are current enough, and 277, DFW isn't really what I'm looking for, but thanks all the same.

gotta stress the "rhetoric" and "persuasion" angle of this assignment - not sayin it has to be a political speaker. but i guess that helps

Find anything from George Galloway MP, he's a living legend when it comes to rhetoric. Here's his famous (infamous) Senate speech, plus two more...
