The scanner seems kind of dumb (where is the bluetooth?), but paying via a smart phone is definitely a nice idea. You could keep digital receipts to track all your purchases, etc.

yeah, i know you can pay for everything with a cell phone in japan.

this is basically the same thing, but with more potential, because of the app platform.

not only japan. and seriously if korea (non-axis-of-evil korea) has had the ability to pay for everything by phone for at least 4 years, where the fuck has the states been?

I mean you already touched on it, why the fuck do they have to use a scanner.

And the idea that you have to load money separately on to the phone app.

I don't see it is having much more potential than the way things are in Japan/Korea...where phones can basically be used as credit/debit cards.

But wait, really? There solution involves scanning a barcode printed on the screen of the phone. Couldn't they figure out something more clever than that? I don't know it just seems kind of silly to me.

I didn't mean to be a downer in this thread, I was tired as hell last night and this just seemed silly.

But it'll be a big seller, because of the parties involved.

It's just ridiculous that people in North America get shafted like this when it comes to mobile IT.
