damn shame that great minds like sagan and feynman left us so early.

one of the comments was spot on

heart of an explorer

soul of a poet

mind of a scientist

eyes of a child.

the biggest illusion is yourself

some kind soul uploaded LOADS of feynman to youtube about a month ago:

the inconceivable nature of nature

fire

this one BLOWS MY MIND. stored sunlight/heat, just... woah

an abstraction of a hydroelectric plant: bigger is electricity

electron pipes... yeah!

the train

feynman's last big project before he died was to do with a very simple engineering failure on the O-rings on the challenger

mirrors

why do mirrors seem to switch left and right, but not top and bottom?

there's loooads more on youtube too

no-one can explain things with such joy and enthusiasm and never-ending fascination and goddamn fucking wonder as feynman. a rare thing, a man who never stopped questing and exploring - he saw every question as merely the birth of another three! can you imagine what his lectures were like?

if i have a hero it's richard p feynman

bonus unrelated documentary!

why dogs smile and chimpanzees cry - a study of emotions in animals. narrated by sigourney 'get away from her you bitch!' weaver

this fucking destroyed me. i was literally in bits at the end. watch part 5 from 2:11-5:30 and tell me it isn't the most heartbreaking thing you've ever seen in your entire life :(

lol i just knew this would get slashdotted

i took the plunge, nearly 9 gigs of cosmos on the way. i can't wait - while the book really fired my imagination at the age of 16, i've never seen the series.

There's so many books by Mr. Sagan, he's got a lot of material out there for those who miss him.

*** This announcement is brought to you by the Shimago-Dominguez Corporation

*** helping America into the New World...

this video has had a very odd effect on me - i was familiar with a lot of stuff dr. sagan was involved with

but this led me to research a lot more... and it's weird - i now have a sort of vague sense of grief that he's gone... the same sort of vague sense of grief i have about richard feynman.

why couldn't this fool have used actual footage, not movie clips?

jesus wept.
