The police like it because the damage is invisible. No more bloodied protesters, just a bunch of deaf ones. It makes for much less exciting TV.

fucking A i lovE dune, and i love lrad.

but seriously i would sue the shit out of the police if i incurred any detectable hearing damage from this kind of weapon. they are just driving through neighborhoods and shit? what if someone who lived in one of the houses was outside doing yardwork, is it fair for them to be blasted by 120 decibals of siren noise?

this is sarcasm right?

also full on lol at Youtube embed fail...

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

As much as it infuriates me that heyd use that... The article doesn't mention that it was used on people that were being violent and destructive.

And yeah, there are such things as legal and illegal protests. There are right ways to go about things, and destroying stuff isn't one of them.

But all that said, I don't think this should be used on civilians, especially because of the know issues of you know permenant hearing loss and DEATH

This.

Atleast here in the Netherlands you need to acquire some sort of permission in order to protest legally.

heh seriously? have you watched any of the videos? I frankly haven't seen a single instance of anybody being violent being shot with these sound weapons (edit: by now i have seen a couple videos of anarchists getting shot with sound weapons). there are provocateur style anarchists at this protest but they are the extreme minority. Most of the people i saw on videos getting tear gassed and sound weaponized are just normal college students with backpacks on

i find it kind of sad that just because a few people destroy stuff that an entire mostly peaceful protest gets painted as an unruly event , but this is how it always works right?

man me too, this is why i find this especially infuriating. I mean all you have to do is watch videos of these trucks driving through fucking residential areas in Pittsburg blasting these sound cannons. So let me use my example again, if i was to stand outside doing yard work in my home and i lived in that pittsburg neighborhood i could potentially loose my hearing forever because of the people i pay my tax dollars to to protect me. seems very backwards to me

what's paradoxical is that people (mostly skinheads and chavs) will willingly pay money to experience similar hearing loss listening to something which isn't too dissimilar (if a tad bass-heavier) of their own volition

i have met several people with significant and mostly high-frequency hearing loss from going to raves innit

rain bullets could be absolutely deadly if fired at a high-enough velocity

if you didn't sit in the shade on jupiter during a storm, you'd be swiss cheese

and even that is dependent on being lighter than a mixture of mostly H2, He, and some other shit

and there being shade on jupiter. and rainstorms.

i'll come in again.

That sound is the sound of evil....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyZDMhQdLnc&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXElVCAqhyA&feature=related

(this last one was especially troubling to me because it looks like they are just cruising into residential neighborhoods

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFLFWmXdMZY

(this is the only one i can find with protestors doing anything violent* correction the other one shows dumpster launching too, but it seems to just be one specific group of people trying to provoke things. Same type of people at all the american protests who do this shit, the black block anarchists)

in most of the videos i can find the police are using intimidation tactics and sound weapons on people innocent bystanders or peaceful protestors. And it's not even being in a cross fire type of situation.

edit I just feel like if i was tear gassed in my own dorm just for watching a protest down below on the street and cornered by riot police i would be really pissed at not the protestors but the police.
