what is the deal with this track? it's so praised, yet every song on the album is better

nah, it's easily the best on the record. Dayvan and Oscar are just behind it. tightest beat, most driving, most different parts, lush ass pads, sweet breaks and key change at end.

It's not as good as Slow This Bird Down

I'd agree it's one of the best tracks on the album. I'd rate the tracks something like:

1) Chromakey Dreamcoat/Sherbet Head

2) '84 pontiac dream

3) dayvan cowboy/satellite anthem icarus

4) constants are changing/slow this bird down/tears from the compound eye

I have never liked Peacock Tail, it sounds like Bobby McFerrin to me, music you'd play to make your 5 year old dance, rather un-BoC (like a watered down and gay Telephasic Workshop). I also don't like Hey Saturday Sun or Oscar See Through Red Eye.

These all have a similar vibe to Peacock Tail IMO, I love them all. Do not see the Telephasic Workshop similarities either

roygbiv, dawn chorus, IABPOITC are nothing like Peacock Tail. Roygbiv feels like the "hero triumphs" soundtrack to some lost 70's film, dawn chorus is a beautiful but twisted tribute to sex or childbirth, and IABPOITC is an opiated, creepy cult indoctrination anthem.

If you don't see how it compares to Telephasic Workshop I'm surprised. It shares the same song structure: start with something really simple, add loops of voices and ambient sound in a clever way so the whole thing builds up into a complex pattern. Except it just isn't as compelling to me as Telephasic Workshop. Plus, those opening warm hummy strings sound gay as hell to me, hence the reference to Bobby McFerrin and the *bad* kind of children's music. There's a difference between making music that is nostalgic about childhood, and making music *for* children. Basically I just find it sounds overly sappy and sentimental and cutesy. I think it's the only cutesy track BoC have made, though the end is much better than the start. IMO. I think it's LOL Alzado's favorite track off the album, which makes sense as he's a repressed homosexual and it's pretty much a litmus test for gayness.

you guys let me get away with too much bashing, it's not as bad as all that, just something drives me nuts about those opening fuzzy strings, they have "i'm a big sentimental pussy" written all over them, so I rate the track a bit lower. It does kind of build interestingly, sounds to me like maybe what a baby would hear as they're first trying to make sense of language and sounds. Someone here might have said that before me. For the record I really like Campfire Headphase, I don't think it's their most inspired album but it's the one I enjoy listening to the most, had it on repeat in my car forever.

I like Satellite Anthem Icarus a lot but it's also touched with gayness; it treads dangerously close to easy listening music and has all those wacky "squiggly" sound effects in it...Sherbet Head and Slow This Bird Down are the only tracks on the album that hint at their previous big balls, I even think they pussied out on the drums on Dayvan Cowboy.

I think that's basically it. TCH is very.. EASY. Geogaddi is more creepy; TCH lulls me to sleep a bit, not that that's a bad thing

i finally get this track.

You know that's kind of odd cause I was riding my bicycle over to some scrapyard thing today, listened to the track and though there was something different about it. Don't know what it was, it felt like there was stuff in there that wasn't there before. Checking back now I fail to notice it again. Well fair enough it might be due to a different mp3player but it's weird that it happened on the same day. I also thought it was better than before. I never disliked it but still.

Once again we see how long this album takes you to get it. I mean, you can easily "get it" in terms of listening and enjoying the tracks but it takes forever until you become aware of the actual BoC quality that's definitely in there.

I only dislike the guitars in Hey Saturday Sun ... don't like the title either. Maybe I will in twelve years.

it really clicked for me when i was listening to it in my car out on the open road
