Bubble and Squeak

It has come to my attention, that with a large part of this board being Canadian and American, that many of you have not heard about bubble and squeak. It's a british dish of boiled vegetables, usually broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, carrots any kind of vegetable really. You then mash the vegetables together untill soft, and roll them into cake shapes and sizes, pop em in the frying pan and fry them up in a little oil, delicious served with crispy bacon.

Like so:

People who bitch about british food haven't had it xxx, and I'm confident, what with you being an open-minded person, that you would like many of our traditional british dishes.

Like Lasagne and curry.

Bubble and Squeak is the archetype of war-time cooking... next to Bread and Dripping anyway.

Note: This does not act as a mark of quality, of course. To the contrary. I agree with foreigners that British food is largely disappointing, and if I hadn't grown up with such meals I wouldn't go near them with a barge-pole.

Although, more positively, being reared on British food only makes other foods even more enjoyable, lol.

it's traditionally left overs from a roast dinner the night before, so probably just to do something different i suppose.

Why do you fry it? It sounds perfect alright right until the frying is introduced.

Try it, than you'll know why. Frying it just tastes so much, all crispy and tasty, it's a bit like saying you can put bacon in the microwave so why grill it? Same metaphor really.

Actually, we're pretty evenly split between US and UK people, if the country locations are to be believed...

Bubble and Squeak is minging, sorry George.

There was a time when you'd be too scared but to do anything except agree with me. This new medication is giving you balls, I like it. Take more of them, up your dose or something, I need you ready.
