Sooo I've had an ea-1 for a while, but i'd never really worked it into my workflow as I am mostly using Logic for composition and production. I never figured out a way to integrate it since it also only sends and receives NRPNs instead of the normal CC messages making it very difficult to sequence remotely.

lameness.

This weekend I finally over came that. I discovered that using midipipe, I could convert the NRPN messages into CC messages, and use it as a controller. I've been doing some acid remixes of krunk rap, and wanted a nice way to play it out, so that prompted me to overcome the obstacle. I'm sequencing the virtual 303 from the step sequencer on the EA-1, and since almost all the synth knobs are the same as on the 303 I can just map it all out, and then it's like I have a 303 wearing an EA-1 suit. The knobs are even labeled correctly for their functions. :)

Anyways I figured there were probably some people out there who would like to use an Electribe as a controller but have skull fucked themselves into an NRPN coma. Just thought I'd share my breakthrough.

Fuck NRPNs.

That is all.

That's pretty cool! I would love to have that kind of 303 sequencing control. 303 sequencing staring at a screen is really strange to me. I would think being able to have it in front of you would be a lot more intuitive.

Hanratty, you should be able to do it with your ER-1 if he can do it with his EA-1, but it may only be drum step sequencing instead of meldoic sequencing like the EA-1, but you may be able to do that too.

Amesome sig btw, slightlydrybeans

I just got a TR-505 this week, and this thread inspired me to map it to my virtual 909/808/606! A much easier process than having to route it through a strange program, just saying thanks for the inspiration. I would have gotten around to this sooner or later, but this got me thinking about it. This rules!

ya I think all the Electribes use NRPN. A lot of synths do actually. I don't know why. Some bullshit about 'more available controllers' although the EA-1 is cack simple. I can upload the midipipe patch if anyone is interested.

so midipipe can enable the korg electribes to act as a midi controller? do all the knobs send signals ? that would be seriously awesome. i'd imagine if you're using it to control a 303 patch the slide on/off can be sent as well
