Figure 8

Anybody else remember this Schoolhouse Rock short growing up? Just saw this again and it brought back a flood of nostalgia. I don't know why but this song always made me so sad as a kid. It's still got this powerful melancholy feel to it.

Elliott Smith also did a great cover version of it as a bonus track for his album also titled Figure 8.

I had no idea the Smith version was a cover. Man, time to give Figure 8 a spin again. That album was some solid pop music miserere. Can't Make A Sound is definitely one of his best songs.

that cover isn't bad at all. i had never heard it. as far as the original, yes I both remember and oddly enough shared those same feelings. it seemed they didn't play this one so much tho.

Yeah, it doesn't quite fit in with the rest of his albums but it might be my favorite of his. Both this and Nick Drake's Bryter Layter have over the top production on a few tracks which make for a good change of pace. It's nice to hear those songs where a ray of sunshine breaks through the gloom.
