flavored tobacco ban

Recommended Posts

every autumn i buy a pack of djarum special clove cigarettes to help bring in the changing of the seasons. i'm not really a regular smoker anymore, but i like the crackling sound these things produce when you light them. sounds like a campfire and it complements the cooler air nicely. but today i went to my local tobacco place and apparently they aren't allowed to sell them anymore. or any other kind of flavored cigarette. and yet they can still sell menthols. and in new york city it may become illegal to sell any kind of flavored tobacco, which means cigars, cigarillos, hookah, etc.

i wonder if this is a step toward banning any kind of tobacco product. probably not.

That Nat Sherman tobacco store in NYC is usually my first stop when rolling into the city. Their hint of mint cigs as well as the Havana Ovals are my favorites

when i was 18 i worked a graveyard shift job pulling staples out of home mortgage documents. they gave people who smoked a couple smoke breaks a shift, so i decided to take up smoking. nat shermans was my choice, they were really classy smokes, came in a greenish box and if i recall correctly had a touch of mint. i just liked having the box. i also smoked dunhill lights to balance the nat shermans with a more savory smoke.

those are Hint of Mint... great smokes, unbelivably fresh when you get them in NYC and go great with martinis. no homo.

I heard about this shit and it really pissed me off although I can understand where they are coming from: Kids smoke the candy flavored cigarettes because they taste better than regular cigarettes and then they get hooked, its totally a ploy from the tobacco companies.

Whether or not I agree with it personally, its true that kids will be more likely to start smoking if they can find something they actually enjoy smoking.

Hence my posted Canada flag, this law does not have any planned arrival in the great north.

look at the way salvia law is going in the US now.... its just disgraceful. Not to insult you Americans but rather the general state of mentality of americans caused by the politicians who think they know whats up.

the thing that pisses me off is they still let the big tabacco companies sell menthols. so basically the only people who get fucked are clove smokers.

When I heard about this I was very upset, so I went to the tobacco store to see if they had any stock they were trying to clear out. The guy at the store told me that Djarum now sells cigars, and use a tobacco leaf paper and different tobacco. I bought a pack of Djarum Blacks. They taste pretty much exactly the same and still make that wonderful crackle.

Doesn't really seem like much difference to me.

Yeah lol that's my understanding.

From wikipedia:

"The clove cigars are sold in increments of twelve per pack, are wrapped using tobacco leaf rather than thin paper, and (though they use a different kind of tobacco) taste similar to their kretek predecessors."

I'm pretty sure they've made all of their products cigars now. The ban seems to only affect cigarettes. Google tells me that there is some legal dispute right now between Djarum and the FDA to see if the new cigars are legal. Djarum claims that their cigars (which are exactly the same size as a cigarette) meet all the legal requirements to be considered cigars.
