I have to say, listen to this, quiz tears, his old album is good, but all of his stuff in the years since is amazing.

When his new album comes out I WILL EXPLODE. (unless it turns out bad due to some disastrous series of events)

I'm pretty sure I like Dimlite's EP work better than Hud Mo or Fly Lo (Fly Lo def. has to give cred to Dimlite for inspiration I'd think)

I've heard Runbox Weathers from 2005. It's pretty good, but not better than Fly Lo to my ears. I usually don't leave it on for very long. Would you recommend something else over this? This Is Embracing or Quiz Tears?

Quiz Tears even though just an EP, is one of my favorite tracks of 2009.

I think I'm exaggerating a little bit, he has a lot of faults to him and some of his tracks, but he also has some really good moments.

Flying Lotus has a better over all style and consistency which is why he's better. This is Embracing for what is it.. 06? Is pretty awesome.

I will support the Dimlite love. I downloaded Runbox Weathers when it came out and thought it was a good Prefuse type album but in retrospect it was really one of the first "wonky" albums to exist I think. Didn't hear anything by him for a few years after that until I was blown away by Quiz Tears recently. Such a weird yet catchy track.

I don't get how you are comparing him to Hudson Mohawke or Flying Lotus... but anyhow I've found Runbox to be far better then This Is Embracing but overall his Misel Quitno stuff is my favorite.

Quiz Tears sounds like similar to Flying Lotus and a very warped Quasimoto I think, his older stuff sounds more like Prefuse.

I have both Runbox Weathers and This is Embracing but I think it's been a good year or so since I've listened to them.

This is interesting because I remember it being Prefuse-style but don't remember hearing any wonk...maybe I wasn't really aware of the style at the time. Curious to play them again now.

Also going to play that new track when this album I'm playing ends, I'm excited he has something new out.

Oh wait I know this song! In the posted video. I thought it was the new one "Quiz Tears" you guys were talking about. The one in the vid's from the Beat Dimensions Vol. 2 EP, very good stuff on that comp. Interesting video. :emotawesomepm9:

You can probably hear a demo on boomkat...

here you go

I don't see a soundclip link on that page, but I just listened on Amazon.. Sounds good but hard to gauge from 30 seconds.

top right there are two squares "play" and "buy", play does the whole track with a little beep every 30 seconds.

Oh, thanks. I'm used to the sample links being below the description.

I think this blows Flying Lotus away. It's very similar in style, but it's actually really musical. To my ears Flying Lotus has the form but not the musicality, so it just sounds gimmicky to me.

Thanks for the heads up on this dude's work. Very nice stuff.

Even though it goes back to 06 I just recently discovered This is Embracing, and it quickly became my soundtrack to the summer of 09. By no means a perfect album but there are so many brilliant moments on it. The remix he did recently of Carlos Nino is pretty hot too.

So yeah, somebody break down this wonky shit for me, seems like I've been listening to it for a while now without even knowing. Can't all this off-kilter beatwork be traced back to J Dilla? And why is Flying Lotus getting so much credit? Now I like Flying Lotus (quite a bit actually), but Dabrye and Caural were making beats like this back at the beginning of the decade.

to be honest I think if you think Caural and Dabrye's stuff is the same as Flying Lotus's then you're a little crazy.

I used to love caural, (never that into Dabrye), but they aren't really wonky at all to me. They're important to the scene that lead to it though.

I fell like the explosion happened with All City records, I'm not even sure though.

Dimlite is really good. I only have Runbox and This is Embracing, but from those, I still feel that Prefuse does that "experimental-glitchy/machine funk/blablahblah" sound much much better. Flying Lotus is a lot more original and consistent than Dimlite, plus it's got really crunchy claps, everyone loves that! :aphexsign:

I am very excited for his upcoming album, however.
