A perfect example of an album that has grown on me.

I first heard "Two Weeks" on our local indie station, before the album came out. I only knew of the band but hadn't bothered to check them out. I enjoyed the song, heard it twice I think. Decided to check out the album on the strength of that song, and boy was it a snoozefest. Seriously! Nothing stood out except for "Two Weeks", it all just blended together and washed over me with no effect. However, I tried again, and slowly some of the tracks started standing out. I played it a lot over the summer and absolutely LOVE some of the tracks (Two Weeks, Cheerleader, Ready Able, About Face, Foreground, maybe another). Unfortunately, the others are kind of meh. They've grown on me to the point that I recognize them and don't mind listening to them, but they really pale in comparison to the songs I like. It's too bad, because they keep the album from reaching more than 4 out of 5 stars for me. But really I LOVE the good songs. They make me feel warm and sad with a little bit of hope.

Oh and I've since checked out Yellow House but don't dig it too much. I thought maybe it could grow on me the way Veckatimest did, but I'm not sure that's possible. I've only tried twice, but I figure after my experience with Veckatimest I'd be able to tell if there was something there or not. And I'm not feeling it. The last track "Colorado" is decent but the rest I really struggled to find interesting.

pretty much the same story here. i also think "southern point" is awesome. there is one prominent vocalist in grizzly bear that i dislike much more than the others (whoever leads the pre-chorus/chorus of "all we ask"... come on. it sounds ridiculous) but the middle of the cd is where it starts to shine.

to sum up, veckatimest works better when you listen to it a few times from beginning to end. skipping between songs breaks that strange cohesive factor of the album that makes it good.

totally into them:) not sure if i can pick a favourite between yellow house and veckatimest but they're both amazing.

they're playing in australia next year and i have tickets to both their melbourne shows :D:D

By far one of the best songs and videos of 09 .

I need that fucking album ( thank God I didn't buy it yet ) Gotta get the 2 disc version

Man, Yellow House is so much better than Veckatimst IMO. LIttle Brother, On a Neck on a Spit, Colorado as you mentioned. I love that whole album other than Marla I think it's called.

Well perhaps I'll give it another try some day.

Yellow House and Veckatimest (shitty name for an album) are both great. I cant pick one over the other either but that music video is pretty boring.

Also Warp is just being smart by branching out. Good for them.

still though, it's a better video vid than While You Wait For The Others.. i think.

This comment pisses me off. This band was signed before they were anything pretty much. All the had out was horn of plenty and sorry for the delay which both are really crappy lo-fi recordings with some good songs on them. Yellow House was an amazing album that got picked up and by pitchfork etc and hyped because it was amazing. Of course the hipsters jumped on too. The same thing is happening with WHY? recently and it's ridiculous. A band drops an amazing album which gets picked up by more mainstream media and suddenly they're hipster trash...

hipster trash or not, if this song is any indication of the rest of their output, its nothing to go crazy about. pleasant enough, sure, but at the end of the day ill just listen to the beatles or something if i need a pop fix like this.

you got to stop judging stuff because of what other people think of it.

I like them a lot, they're a good band regardless of the hype and hipster love.

I think I still prefer Yellow Hose to Veckatimest (still have no idea how to pronounce this, luckily I haven't needed to). The good songs on Vecka.. are truly awesome, which more than makes up for the meh ones.

Go to the most pretentious ridiculous drone/psych hipster forum, and you'll find people showing off their aphex record collection, or Squarepusher etc.

If you stop liking something because hipsters like it, then you're just as much of a scenester as they are.

I hate the new album but I think yellow house is well very good

love both albums.. really really do. i think yellow house is more solid, but i also think the band are in a better place now than before. they have a really defined and uniqely grizzly style of songwriting+performance, and they've just been getting stronger and stronger.

there's a reason grizzly bear are among my favourite bands atm and it's got nothing to do with pitchfork or trendy trends or anything. i downloaded yellow house based on jonny greenwoods words of praise, but all i could hear was bland nothingness that went straight over my head. came back to it later when i realised they were on warp and gave it a few more listens. eventually it clicked and i realised i was listening to some of the nicest fucken music. in short, what i'm trying to say is.. <3<3<3!!1oneonelolol!

Veckatimest is a top five album of this decade for me. I have a hard time understanding how anyone who appreciates melodic, emotional, vocal oriented music can not love these guys. Everything about their sound is so inviting.
