Question about using midi controllers with USB 2.0 vs Firewire

I'm looking to get a new Macbook (with no firewire), or a Macbook Pro (has firewire). I think I would use firewire with an external HD and a midi controller (when I get one). IS it ok to not have firewireand just use usb? the Macbook is cheaper so I'd rather get it but I dont want future frustration with not being able to adequetly rock out on my softsynths.

Don't you worry your little socks, the latency will be so minute you will not notice any difference between 2.0 and firewire. Hell even a USB1.0 midi interface would probably be speedy enough (possibly !)....

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

ya midi signals are super tiny. I don't think I've even seen a straight midi interface w/ FW. The only real benefit is being able to use a audio interface w/ multitrack recording capability.
