cost of producing your last album

Recommended Posts

hey guys, quick question for the EKT in-crowd. i know we are all masters of doing things cheaply and for free . . but if you guys used commercial software (instead of just FREE DEMO VERSIONS OR WHATEVER), how much do you all think it would cost to make your last album? include all software you use, and stuff like new hardware/instrument purchases in the months leading up to production. also include any costs for producing and mailing hard-copy releases.

i think mine comes in at around $3k for software, interface, mics, and duplication. on the upside i have some nice gear now and it's cheaper to make good-sounding stuff.

This is something I try not to think about.

Too much $ spent for the crap sound I get in the end.

I guess technically our latest album has cost about £700, as since the last album we've bought a new midi keyboard, a Zoom H2 field recorder with a big HCSD card, an Echo Audiofire4, and a registered copy of Reaper.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

we did one hard copy release and broke even which was a big phew thank christ

for downloads subtract however much money we pay a month for webhosting, a couple bucks

more than I care to think about. but it's not the money that bug me, it's the waste of time and energy.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

my only 2 releases so far were made with pirated software, free VSTs and about 200$ of gear for various field recordings, samples etc. Hard copies cost me around a couple dollars each to make sold them at 5$ each, sold around 50 copies of each so I probably made like 100$ total. I've bought a lot of gear since those 2 releases, but I hope to sell a lot more copies of my next release, and will not need too much gear once I have my next release out.
