Cheapest way to sync a DAW with x0x

Recommended Posts

Sorry to post yet another sync question but..

Would a simple USB-MIDI interface (9$ from ebay) work to drive a x0xb0x or a 707 with a MIDI clock signal from Logic?

I have the following setup:

707 is master:

707 drives x0xb0x over MIDI

707 drives 606 over DINSYNC

707 drives 101 over CLK

I would like my DAW (Logic) to be master so that I can layer multiple tracks without the 707 going out of sync.

the 707 wont be master to anything else if you slave it to something.

does your x0xb0x have a Thru? try putting the DAW after the x0xb0x and keeping the 707 as master of all

The x0xb0x does have a thru..

I don't want the 707 to be master because the tempo comes straight from an analog pot so it shifts easily.

I think I will try:

Logic controls x0xb0x over MIDIin

x0xb0x controls 707 over MIDIthru

x0xb0x controls 606 over DINSYNC

606 or 707 controls 101 over CLK

But this requires the x0xb0x to be both master and slave; I dunno if it's possible.

And I still don't know if I can output a MIDI clock signal from Logic over a cheap USB-MIDI interface-- anyone done this?

I wouldn't waste my money on one of those cheap USB-MIDI cables. I bought one from Hong Kong once for 10 euros, it couldn't handle much. When I tried to upload patches I made on my computer to my Yamaha DX200 (Desktop FM Module), it let me down, an error message popped up on the DX200 screen, and it disappeared as soon as I tried it with an EMU 1x1 MIDI-USB cable.

edit: MIDI Clock signal might work though...

lol when i got my midi usb cable in small print on the box was 'Does not support yamaha' so much for my dx-7 linkage which was why i got the thing! my friend used x station midi thru and managed to clock the 707 from ableton so that you could trigger drum sounds

not sure why anyone wouldn't just get a midi interface for their computer instead of a USB --> midi cable, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen

get the innerclocksystems sync-lock box

It syncs your DIN device (303, 808, etc) to a pulse SAMPLE from your DAW. Which means it is in perfect sync to a sample. Not to a sloppy, jittery midi clock. Its worth it.

I've got a similar problem. I needa sync my novation nova with reason 4. Wouldn't wanna spend the money on a sync-lock box just yet, but a usb interface with midi out would do the trick, right? (tascam us-1641 is what I've got in mind, anyone have any experience with these?)
