Wisp + Venetian Snares + San Francisco

Recommended Posts

great show. Wisp's set was the best. Vsnares was good for a while, but it was akin to watching pornography where every shot is closeups of penetration, needed more foreplay and/or cunnilingus. Definitely didn't seem to drop below 180 bpm at any point, he also played almost no new tracks (no last step) except for Pink and Green ep. overall a fun show, but the only person selling cds and records was Nero's Day at Disneyland.

Since there isn't a thread I'll just say that I was at the Seattle show and although everything leading up to the show (including the first two DJ's) sucked ass... once Wisp came on things got a shit ton better. He played a great set, though a little rough in the beginning with some technical problems, once it got going I couldn't stop moving to the beat. The crowd you could tell was full of vsnares fans, but a good number of them was pretty into it, even though it was more techno then breakcore/dnb. I left when vsnares came on, and I'm pretty sure I made the right call. He immediately started pretty heavy and for me it was just a bit much (was pretty tired physically from biking a lot to get to the venue).

Lol. Not liking Vs is ok (in fact, many people don't like him), but leaving the show? Come on?

I didn't actually have much of a choice cause to get home I had to bike 5 miles to catch a ferry boat, which only run every hour and a half when it gets past midnight.

Damn...you live out on Bainbridge or something?

Well it sounds like the show would have been a bit tiring for me (being the VSnares fan) based on your comments and Awepittance's above. Sensory overload. Instead I got a good (well, average) night's rest and my ears aren't ringing.

Haha yeah, but moving to Seattle this week. And yeah it would have been pretty tiring especially snares.

fuck yeah, great show. i agree with the consensus - wisp was excellent, snares was ok but lacked any sort of dynamic curvature to make his set interesting.

haha, great way of putting it, exactly the problem i had when i last saw him.

i guess i had some expectations of him playing some of his non raggajungle gabber material , he's put out a lot of varied stuff in the past 2-3 years ie: my downfall, last step, horsey noises, and even his last 2 proper high bpm lps were not of the ragga jungle variety. When i said the only thing 'new' he played anything was pink and green, i also meant that he didn't play any material whatsoever that deviated from the sound of that EP. nothing from 'huge chrome box' or anything else showcasing his other sounds.

And that makes me really glad I didn't spend the money and lose the sleep. I definitely would have expected some variety.

Was at the Seattle show...

Wisp played a lot less Lich/dubstep stuff than when he was here in July. He played a lot of sorta mid-tempo dancey unreleased tracks. Played one shimmering hour track(Hexenridge or Cultus Klatawa can't remember now) and it was easy to see why he shies away from that record live - all of the kids in the front stopped dancing and without the ridiculously overpowered subs going nobody seemed to know what to do. It was played about 30% faster with some new 303 lines over top. He also did Hnipian, which sounded great on the sound system. He finished up with some massive dnb as snares was setting up.

Snares was using a Denon CD dj kit with a little pack full of cd-rs w/ 1 track a piece that he kept paging through. I'm pretty sure if rdj did that some crazy fan would run up there and snatch it and masturbate all over the manchester track. Started out great with some Detrimentalist tracks, Horsey Noises, and other somewhat newish tracks. About halfway through he started introducing some noise, and pretty soon it was just endless gabber beats. I think he yelled out "fuck off" twice to some folks near the stage around the time the gabber took over and looked kinda uncomfortable. The gabber just kept going on and on and eventually he left the stage with noise like Troon described at the SF show. If I hadn't read that post I would've thought he had left the noise on because he was super pissed about something or other. The lighting guy was looking around like "should I go turn that off?" Not sure if I'd go see snares again, pretty meh.

wisp put on a great show until he started talking to the amazon woman. And who was the guy whose will power kept banging a 1 to my toggle all night long?
