Ultimately this is between two powerhouses, David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.

Bowie, arguably just beyond his peak, no longer the youthful duke but still smouldering and cocksure as Jareth the goblin king, out-acting muppets time and time again, juggling with crystal orbs in an overtly erotic manner, recklessly hurling babies into the air, transmogrifying into a glorious white owl, and occasionally displaying a package that causes me throw my head back and cheer uproariously.

Connelly, on the other hand, just before her peak and at 16 arguably a questionable age for lusting after, her innocent and determined green eyes seeking through a nightmarish Sesame Street landscape for some stupid kid or whatever, her putative breasts well secured but ominously present, inquisitive jailbait eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she becomes aware of her own blossoming sexual arsenal.

I think if I watched it in 1986 I would have instantly said Bowie was undoubtedly the erotic master, but now with the knowledge of what I know happens to Connelly's dusky lip-biting carnality in the next decade, viewing her warming up is almost more enjoyable than actually seeing her capital knockers.

I don't know who these characters are, but I like the guy that sings the songs.

Oh God Jennifer Connelly gave me such a fucking boner even as a kid, so God damn hot. I'd be surprised if anyone could get away with making a film like this today and consider it suitable for viewing. Like has already been said this is an extremely sexual film between a 16 year old girl and an older man. I doubt very much this would be given the go ahead in todays media climate.

Exactly, and thats 5 whole years after this. Labyrinth is the genesis. Even she was only guessing at how she might develop. Only Bowie knew.

i think Return to Oz beats Labyrinth by a small margin in the dark 80's kids movie department , but it's definitely ranked #2 for me.
